Allison TES 668 transmission fluid, with TES 295 and C-4: which TotalEnergies grades qualify
Fluidmatic SYN T668 is on Allison's TES 668 Approved Fluids list as approval 668-10082021 (list dated 4 Sep 2026).[2]
It is not on Allison's TES 295 list: TotalEnergies' data sheet lists it only as suitable for TES 295.[3][6]
Allison no longer approves C-4 fluids for commercial on-highway transmissions, so the C-4 grades below are only for equipment whose manual still names C-4.[4]

Confirm in your equipment manual: Allison says C-4 (TES 228) fluids are no longer approved for commercial on-highway transmissions.
What is Allison TES 668?
TES 668 is Allison's current specification for on-highway transmission fluid. Allison recommends TES 668 Approved Fluids for its 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 Series, H 40/50 EP, eGen Flex and eGen Power products.[1]
Allison describes TES 668 as building on TES 295 with a modern additive package.[5]
TES 668 vs TES 295 vs C-4: what's the difference?
They are separate Allison specifications. TES 668 is the newest; TES 295 fluids remain on Allison's list for the 1000 to 4000 Series and H 40/50 EP, and Allison suggests TES 295 users consider TES 668 at their next service. C-4 (TES 228) is no longer approved for commercial on-highway use.[1][4]
| TES 668 | TES 295 | C-4 (TES 228) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Allison's position | Recommended for current on-highway products | Still listed; Allison suggests moving to TES 668 | No longer approved for commercial on-highway transmissions |

Is Fluidmatic SYN T668 on Allison's TES 295 list?
No. The TotalEnergies fluid on Allison's TES 295 / TES 468 list is Fluidmatic SYN T295, which we don't supply. Fluidmatic SYN T668 is on the TES 668 list, and its TotalEnergies data sheet puts TES 295 under 'Suitable for', not under manufacturer approvals.[3][2][6]
If your transmission's records call for TES 295, the practical choice is whether to move to a TES 668 fluid, as Allison suggests. Check your warranty terms first.(our interpretation)
Can I still use an Allison C-4 fluid?
Not in a commercial on-highway Allison transmission: Allison's publication 1099 states that TES 228 (C4 type) fluids are no longer approved for those products.[4]
TotalEnergies' own Dynatrans ACX data sheet labels the spec 'ALLISON C4 (Obsolete)'.[11]
The C-4 grades listed below are multi-purpose oils (tractor, ATF and transmission) whose data sheets still mention C-4. Use one only where your equipment manual names C-4.(our interpretation)
How do I verify an official Allison approval?
Look the fluid up on Allison's current approved fluids list for the spec your transmission needs. Each approved fluid has an Allison approval number, like 668-10082021.[1][2]
- Find the model series (for example 3000 or 4000 Series) on the transmission ID plate or in the service records.(our interpretation)
- Allison says Extended Transmission Coverage is forfeited when non-approved fluids and non-genuine filters are used.[4]
- Service intervals depend on the fluid type. Allison says TES 389 fluids do not get the same fluid and filter change intervals as TES 668 or TES 295 fluids.[5]

On 24 Oct 2026 we read Allison's TES 668 list (4 Sep 2026), its TES 295 / TES 468 list (18 Jun 2025), publication 1099 Rev BB and the approved fluids page. We then compared them with each grade's TotalEnergies data sheet and the TotalEnergies product list supplied to us. Where sources differ, this page uses the weaker wording.
